RULES AND REGULATIONS

OAK GROVE CEMETERY

AND

MILFORD MEMORIAL CEMETERY

 

It is the intent of the Charter Township of Milford to make both the Oak Grove Cemetery and the Milford Memorial Cemetery a quiet, beautiful resting place for departed loved ones and a place of peace and serenity for visitors.  The Township Board believes that enforcing these rules and regulations will provide security and long term stability for both cemeteries.  In the interest of all, the Township reserves the right, given by law, to prevent or remove any structure or object which shall be deemed inappropriate to the cemetery.  These rules and regulations are not intended to be all encompassing.  Any questions should be directed to the Township Clerk.

 

Lot Purchase, Transfer, Use

1.  Lot fees must be paid in advance of interment.

 

2.  Full payment must be made on reserved lots within ninety (90) days of date      reserved at which time a certificate of burial rights or a deed will be issued.

 

3.  If an owner wishes to dispose of a lot, it shall be sold back to the Township at the price paid by the owner.  The original certificate of burial rights or deed must be relinquished back to the Township.

 

4.  All opening and closing of graves will be handled by the cemetery sexton.  Fees will be paid directly to the sexton by the family or funeral director in advance of interment unless prearranged.  

 

5.  Each grave site may be used for the interment of one (1) full casket and two (2) cremation urns or three (3) cremation urns.

 

6.  Oak Grove: Purchases of lots will be restricted to four (4) lots per address.

 

                Memorial Markers

1.  The grave or lot cannot be marked in any way until a deed or a certificate of burial rights is obtained.

 

2.  All memorial markers or monuments, including government markers, shall be installed by the cemetery sexton.  Cost for this work is to be paid directly to the sexton.  A price schedule for this work is on file at the Township Office.

 

3.       Milford Memorial: All memorial markers shall be made of granite or bronze, are to be set flush with the ground surface, and are to be on the grave or lot in accordance with the pattern and regulations established by the Charter Township of Milford.  Memorial markers shall not exceed the following dimensions:            Single Lot,             36” x 14”

Double Lot,    72” x 16”

Depth Shall Not Exceed 16”

               

Planting / Donations

No shrubs or trees shall be set or planted on any grave, lot or elsewhere in the cemetery.  Donated planting must be arranged through the Township Office.

 

 

 

Flowers, Floral Arrangements, Grave Decorations

1. From November 1 until March 15 a winter wreath or            grave blanket made of evergreen boughs may be placed on the grave.  No container is permitted on any grave during this time period.  The cemetery maintenance contractor will remove any blankets or wreaths remaining after March 15.

 

2.  Milford Memorial:  From March 15 until October 31 grave decorations are limited, at any one time, to two (2) approved containers (metal or plastic cone) of fresh cut flower arrangements or artificial bouquets.  A permanent vase that is an integral part of a marker may be used.

 

3.  Milford Memorial:  During the Holiday periods (Easter, Mother’s Day, Memorial Day, Father’s Day, Independence Day), a potted plant (pot not to exceed ten (10) inches in diameter) will be allowed seven (7) days preceding the holiday until seven (7) days following the holiday.  Any pots placed before or after that time will be removed by the cemetery maintenance contractor.

 

IN ACCORDANCE WITH THESE POLICIES, anything else above the ground surface is expressly prohibited: mounding of soil, curbing or fencing, placement of grass or plastic objects, toys, cans, balloons, streamers, banners, lamps, eternal lights, candles, bird feeders, bird houses, pinwheels, wind chimes, statues, stones, wooden crosses, decorations on trees or shrubs as well as any other objects that may be detrimental to the maintenance, safety, beauty, or serenity of the setting.  All such items will be removed by the cemetery maintenance contractor.

 

                Cemetery Use

1.  Pets must be contained on a leash.

 

2.  No alcohol will be allowed.

 

3.  No firearms will be allowed, except in the case of military funerals or ceremonies by official veterans’ organization on federal holidays, without permission of the Township Office.    

 

4.  No person shall create noise, disorderly conduct or any activity that tends to destroy the peace of the cemetery.

 

5.  Any Group use of the cemetery, other than the interment of the dead, shall have approval from the Township Office.

 

6.  Cemetery hours shall be deemed as dawn to dusk.

 

 

BE IT HEREBY RESOLVED that the Township Clerk, ex-officio-clerk of the Board of Health, shall have the general supervision and sale of the lots of the Oak Grove Cemetery and Milford Memorial Cemetery and shall issue a cemetery certificate of burial rights for the lots sold in the name of Charter Township of Milford, and shall certify such purchases to the sexton and shall turn over to the Township Treasurer all the monies collected by the Clerk for the sale of lots, donations, etc.
