PARKS & RECREATION MASTER PLAN REVIEW, “BASIS FOR ACTION” SECTION, PAGES 35-46

Pages 35 through 46 were reviewed at length by the Commission.  Each Commissioner was given an opportunity to note specific changes, which were written in a copy of the Master Plan by the recording secretary and Chairman Arrowsmith to be referenced when the plan is updated.

The Commissioners discussed the fact that the Township does not own any parkland although approximately 37% of the Township is allocated as some form of recreation area (Kensington Metropark, Camp Dearborn, etc.).  They

discussed areas within the Township in which to potentially locate a township park.

Commissioner Mazzara suggested that the Commission establish a Master Park Plan, which could be incorporated into the current Township Master Land Use Plan.  He requested that each commissioner be given a current Master Land Use map and make them selves familiar with the Township to help determine possible park locations.  Mrs. Brandt agreed to send a township map and a current Master Land Use map to each Commissioner.

Chairman Arrowsmith felt the southern and western portions of the Township would be ideal areas in which to locate a township park.

Commissioner Mazzara explained that the task of the Land Acquisition Criteria Committee (LACC) also known as the Milford Open Space Team (MOST) was to establish criteria for the possible purchase of land by the Township.  He said once a Master Park Plan is established it would be given to the Planning Commission and as a courtesy the Township Board.

MISSION STATEMENT REVIEW, PAGE 22

The Commissioners discussed the purpose of a mission statement and various possible changes to the current one.  Commissioner Nasholm agreed to write a new mission statement and submit it via email to be distributed to the Commission prior to the next regular meeting of September 18, 2006.

VILLAGE PARKS & RECREATION UPDATE/FALL PICNIC PLANNING

Mr. Bill Serchak, Village Parks & Recreation Commission Liaison was not present to provide an update.

The Commissioners discussed at length various events and vendors that have been planned so far for the Fall Community Picnic, to be held on Saturday, October 14, 2006.  Information provided by Commissioner Terian regarding pony rentals was also discussed.  Commissioner Wolfe said the goal of the picnic committee is to have various vendors, such as pony rides, set up at the picnic and collect their own fee for use rather than have both Commissions bear the expense and charge a fee to recoup it.

The Commissioners discussed the purchase of another banner to hang over Main Street to announce the picnic.  Commissioner Wolfe agreed to check prices on various banner sizes and check with the Village for financial help toward the cost.
