APPROVAL OF MINUTES
Commissioner Nasholm moved, Commissioner Heimann seconded to approve the minutes of
CALL TO THE PUBLIC
Mr. Ric Mueller, Chairman,
Friends of Milford Skate Park (FoMSP) gave an update of events that the group
has planned. He spoke about
Skateboarding Awareness Week (SAW) to be held from September 22 through
Chairman Arrowsmith suggested that Mr. Mueller submit volunteer opportunity information to be sent via the community email list. Mr. Mueller agreed.
UNFINISHED BUSINESS
PARKS & RECREATION MASTER PLAN REVIEW, “BASIS FOR ACTION” SECTION, PAGES 35-46
Pages 35 through 46 were reviewed at length by the Commission. Each Commissioner was given an opportunity to note specific changes, which were written in a copy of the Master Plan by the recording secretary and Chairman Arrowsmith to be referenced when the plan is updated.
The Commissioners discussed the
fact that the Township does not own any parkland although approximately 37% of
the Township is allocated as some form of recreation area (Kensington Metropark,

discussed areas within the Township in which to potentially locate a township park.
Commissioner Mazzara suggested that the Commission establish a Master Park Plan, which could be incorporated into the current Township Master Land Use Plan. He requested that each commissioner be given a current Master Land Use map and make them selves familiar with the Township to help determine possible park locations. Mrs. Brandt agreed to send a township map and a current Master Land Use map to each Commissioner.
Chairman Arrowsmith felt the southern and western portions of the Township would be ideal areas in which to locate a township park.
Commissioner Mazzara explained that the task of the Land Acquisition Criteria Committee (LACC) also known as the Milford Open Space Team (MOST) was to establish criteria for the possible purchase of land by the Township. He said once a Master Park Plan is established it would be given to the Planning Commission and as a courtesy the Township Board.
The Commissioners discussed the
purpose of a mission statement and various possible changes to the current one.
Commissioner Nasholm agreed to write a
new mission statement and submit it via email to be distributed to the
Commission prior to the next regular meeting of
Mr. Bill Serchak, Village Parks & Recreation Commission Liaison was not present to provide an update.

length various events and vendors that have been planned so far for the Fall
Community Picnic, to be held on
The Commissioners discussed the
purchase of another banner to hang over

Commissioner Parks said he would get feedback from Village Parks & Recreation members on a joint banner and decide on the official name for the picnic.
At
Commissioner Mazzara stated that those interested in volunteering can just show up at the picnic that day.

he attended the mandatory training and has the safety vests. The Commission confirmed that they would meet
at Milford Medical Clinic on

The Commissioners discussed website ideas. Mrs. Brandt stated that the Township would be having their website revamped by college students through a program offered by the Michigan Townships Association.
