Secretary Terian called the meeting to order at 7:10 p.m.
It was determined that a quorum was present.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES
APRIL 17, 2006 – Commissioner
Nasholm moved, Commissioner Wolfe seconded to approve the minutes of April 17,
2006 as presented. Vote unanimously carried.
MARCH 20, 2006 – Commissioner
Nasholm moved, Commissioner Mazzara seconded to approve the minutes of March
20, 2006 as presented. Vote unanimously carried.
CORRESPONDENCE
Secretary Terian read a letter
from Mr. Doug Klingensmith, Director, Huron Valley Running Club, dated March
17, 2006, which thanked the Township for their financial support for the Labor
Day 30K Race, asked for volunteers and invited the Parks & Recreation
Commission to hang their banner at the finish line.
CALL TO THE PUBLIC
There was no public present.
UNFINISHED BUSINESS
Commissioner Mazzara announced that the Township has received a preliminary approval from the Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) for a grant in the amount of $600,000. He said the Township would like to start construction soon if possible.

FoMSP UPDATE
Commissioner commented on the 2006 fundraiser events calendar.
The Commission discussed a plan,
as outlined by Commissioner Mazzara, for locating a skatepark in
VILLAGE PARKS & RECREATION UPDATE
Spring Community Picnic
Commissioner Mazzara discussed the spring picnic, and felt it should be cancelled due to lack planning interest. The Commissioners and Mr. Serchak discussed the proposed joint spring picnic and Mr. Serchak reminded the Commission that the village did not have funds budgeted to help sponsor the picnic. The Commission decided to cancel the spring picnic.
Commissioner Parks moved,
Commissioner Heimann seconded to schedule a fall picnic jointly with the
Mr. Serchak stated that he would discuss a date with his commission for sometime in mid or late September. Commissioners Mazzara and Wolfe agreed to Chair and Co-Chair, respectively, the Township’s committee.
COMMISSION VACANCY
Mrs. Coni Heimann was introduced as the ninth and final appointment to the Commission.
ADOPT-A-ROAD
Commissioner Mazzara stated that he would schedule the necessary training so the Commission could begin the cleanup program. He noted that Commissioner Schwartz would try to attend the training if he was unable to attend.

Commissioner Wolfe reminded the Commission that a disclaimer would be added when sending emails through the community email list.

Secretary Terian asked the Commission to visit other Parks & Recreation websites and make notes of various features that the Commission would like on our website.

ANNUAL REVIEW OF PARKS & RECREATION MASTER PLAN
Commissioner Mazzara stated that Wade Trim would do the update and the Commission could discuss changes with them once they are determined.
The Commissioners discussed how to conduct a review and determined that two sections would be reviewed each month beginning with the first two for the June meeting, from pages 5 – 21.
COMMISSIONER’S COMMENTS
Commissioner Parks asked for a trail update, as he had not arrived yet when it was discussed.
The Commissioners discussed at length the P & R Master Plan and doing a study of residents recreational needs within the community and a possible new fire station and its location.
Commissioner Mazzara stated that
an informational meeting would be held regarding the Joint Township/Village
Master Plan on Monday, June 12th at 7:00 p.m. at Baker’s of
Commissioner Mazzara said that the Planning Commission is in the process of reviewing safety paths and may recommend adding some language to the ordinance.
Commissioner Mazzara briefly commented on his support for a proposed amendment to the lighting ordinance for commercial and industrial zoned parcels. He mentioned an organization called ‘darksky.org’ that seeks to preserve and protect the nighttime sky.
