When is the Building Department open for business? A: 8:30 -4:30
Monday -Thursday. 8-3:30pm on Friday. Possible closures during lunch. Q.
How long does it normally take to get my building permit once submitted to the
building department? A. Normal turn around time once submitted is 7 to
10 working days. Q. When do I call in for an inspection?
A. Twenty-four (24) hour notice is required for all inspections. Normally anytime
the day before you need the inspection. You can call during regular office hours
, the day prior to the inspection. Q. What information is required
when calling in an inspection? A. You must know the permit number that
has been assigned to the job, the type of inspection, address of the job site,
and give the name of the person calling and a phone number where you can be reached.
Q. What should I do with my copy of my building plans when the Township
gives me an approved copy back? A. Your copy should be on site for all
inspections. Q. Does my building permit also include the electrical,
plumbing and heating permit? A. No. Each mechanical permit MUST be pulled
separately.
Q. How do I get a permit for my well and septic?
A. Contact Oakland County Health Department located at 1010 E. West Maple
Road Walled Lake, MI 48390-3588 (248) 926-3305. All well and septic
permits fall under the purview of the County. Q. As a homeowner can
I pull my own building/mechanical permits? A. Yes. You will be required
to fill out a Homeowners Application claiming that you will be doing the work,
and bare full responsibility for the work that is done. All work must conform
to code and you will be held personally liable. Q. How do I get my
well tested so that I can get my Certificate of Occupancy? A. You must
contact Oakland County Health Department for this test. Q. Does my
builder have to register his license with the Township? A. Yes. The Township
requires all licensed builders to supply a copy of their current license and fill
out forms proving that they carry insurance. Q. I pulled my permit
as a homeowner and had someone else do the work and it was not done properly.
Will the Township intervene on my behalf? A. No. If you pulled the permit
under a Homeowner's Application the responsibility lies with you. Q.
Can the Township recommend a good building, plumbing, electrical, or mechanical
company? A. No. The Township will not recommend any company, however
you may look at our records of licensed contractors.
